We are looking for an intermediate or a senior Geotechnical Engineer / Engineering Geologist who ideally has CPEng (or PEngGeol) or is working towards this. The successful candidate will have at least a minimum of 3 years New Zealand experience.

Our successful candidate will be innovative, wants to achieve, grow, and help lead our Geotechnical Team based in our Hamilton office however this position is flexible working out of the Hamilton Office, or potentially a split week between our Hamilton, Raglan or Taupō office spaces

This opportunity will enable you to be a core member of our Geotechnical Team, which is led by our Geotechnical Team Leader and Engineering Directors, who will empower you to develop yourself and your career.
As a Geotechnical Engineer / Engineering Geologist you will need to have a strong ability to undertake geotechnical design, investigations, reports and sketches to professional and relevant standards along with the ability to review these for sign off.

As a Geotechnical Engineer / Engineering Geologist at BTW, you will be responsible for undertaking the following work, depending on your skill set and experience:

  • Provide engineering services to clients, using practical engineering solutions in a timely fashion. This often includes following the project from identification of issues to construction of physical works.
  • Lead geotechnical projects and provide technical guidance to team members.
  • Undertake geotechnical design, investigations, reports and sketches to professional and relevant standards including the review of documentation. 
  • Provide support to other aspects of the engineering team as workload dictates.

To apply for this role you ideally need: 

  • A suitable degree, diploma, or equivalent qualification.
  • Chartered member of Engineering New Zealand (CMEngNZ) and CPEng (or PEngGeol) registered, or working towards this.
  • At least 3 years’ consulting experience post degree related to Geotechnical engineering – with a significant amount of experience gained in New Zealand.
  • Strong knowledge/interest in geotechnical engineering, soil and rock mechanics.
  • Previous experience assisting and mentoring geotechnical staff
  • Experience overseeing projects.
  • The ability to develop and sustain strong relationships with staff, customers, and contractors.
  • To be motivated, professional, cooperative, and responsive to the needs of the team and clients.
